New Macbook owners should be happy most of the time after purchasing their computers. After all, Macs are known for their reliability, and they should last for quite some time.
On the other hand, after using the laptop for a while, you may encounter some problems. While certain performance issues are more common than others, it would still be beneficial to know how to deal with those that occur rarely.
This article should be a good reference for Macbook owners who will eventually have to deal with computer issues. Memorize the methods to counter the problems, and you will know what to do when the time comes.
Problem #1 – Loud Fan Noises and Overheating
Loud fan noises and overheating can get on one’s nerves quite fast. If you are stuck in a poorly ventilated room and have to run an application that requires many system resources, the Mac may reach a point when it has to restart because the hardware cannot keep up.
Cleaning the dust should be the first thing to do. The filth inside is tricky since you need to take the laptop apart. Not many Macbook owners are willing to do this themselves. Instead, they take the computer to the service store and leave the work in the hands of professionals.
The dust around the Mac should also be cleaned. In addition to overburdening the internal hardware, dust may also lead to macbook trackpad not working. As you can see, it would be beneficial to get in the habit of cleaning your computer more often.
If the issue persists, consider getting a cooling pad – a relatively cheap accessory that provides a source for fresh air.
Problem #2 – Persistent Beach Ball
A beach ball that appears now and then may not be a concerning issue, but if you notice that it takes longer for it to disappear, something may be wrong with the computer.
It may be that the system cannot keep up with the processes. You are force-opening an application while the one you quit has not finished closing yet.
Cleaning temporary system junk, like caches and backups, is known to fix the problem. Also, you should limit the number of background applications in the first place. After all, the computer can react quicker when it has more resources available.
Problem #3 – Kernel Panic
Kernel panics are quite rare, but they can still happen now and then. If the laptop restarts and you see a screen that requires you to restart it again, follow the instructions.
If the issue persists, it is possible that you have deleted an important system file, and restoring it is one of the ways to fix the problem. In case that does not help either, you may need to reinstall the operating system.
Problem #4 – Memory Leaks
The simplest method to get rid of memory leaks would be restarting the Macbook. Applications that have been active for some time start to distribute system memory where the memory should not be distributed.
If you are fed up with waiting for the computer to load after every restart, you can speed the process by:
- enabling the auto-login feature
- trimming up the startup item list
- decluttering the desktop
Problem #5 – Stuttering Internet Browser
Working efficiency may not be optimal if your internet browser stutters or crashes regularly. Some users do not consider how much strain extensions and add-ons put on an internet browser’s overall performance.
Start with removing redundant extensions. If the situation does not improve, try clearing the browser cache. A lack of updates may also be the reason why you are having a hard time surfing the net.
Problem #6 – Unresponsive Microphone
A microphone might be something that you have not used too often, but it would still be better to have a functioning mic in case there is an important call you need to attend.
If the microphone is not working, check the permissions. Some apps require separate permission before they can access the mic. Tinkering with input and output settings is also known as one of the possible solutions.
Problem #7 – Lackluster Battery Life
If your battery is running out of power sooner than you like, perhaps there is a virus or malware consuming the battery life? Or maybe you have too many background applications without realizing it?
Visual effects, such as a backlit keyboard, does not help either. You need to limit applications that consume battery life. Otherwise, you will continue to have this problem.
Problem #8 – Inaccessible Internet Connection
Unable to connect to Wi-Fi? If so, try restarting the Macbook. If that does not help, check for third-party peripherals, such as scanners, that might be blocking the internet signal.
Getting in touch with the ISP may help as well. If nothing else, at least they will confirm that there are no issues from their ends. Finally, try to disconnect from the current internet network and connect to it again.
